Signature BSL Levels 1-6
COVID-19 update: We are fully aware of the risks that this continues to pose to many, however as you know the Government has now removed all restrictions. As such, we have returned to offering our training courses face to face or online, depending on which is most suitable for the teaching session/s being delivered. As always, we will continue to do our utmost to deliver any training in the best and safest way and this may mean offering an online alternative if a course cannot run. All details / changes will be posted on our website as courses are confirmed.
Full Level 6 Certificate in British Sign Language
All candidates must have a minimum of Level 3 BSL, Level 4 is preferable and will be expected to attend an Interview and complete and pass a Skills Assessment before entry.
The course will start on 18th September 2021 and finish in June 2022
The qualification comprises of 150 taught 'classroom' hours (group based learning) and requires a commitment to home study for the duration of the course. Classroom hours will comprise of an 'introductory' Saturday on 18th September 10.00am to 5.00pm, followed by weekly Tuesday evening sessions of 3 hours - 6pm to 9pm. In addition, there will be three Saturday sessions in 2022 (Dates TBC). Candidates must be available to attend all taught sessions and commit to independent study throughout the duration of the course.
This will be held on Saturday 21st August 2021. (Time TBC)
There is a fee of £50.00 to attend this session - this will be deducted from the Course fee if you are offered a place.All sessions will run online via Zoom.
£1,740.00 (inc VAT) to include all online training and assessments. Fees can be paid in instalments.
A team of native and highly qualified BSL teachers and teacher trainers have collaborated to create this Level 6 Language course. With a combined total of over 70 years of experience teaching advanced BSL, the team all have BSL teaching qualifications and include a Deaf Interpreter and Translator and an A1 and EQA Assessor. The team live in different parts of the UK, allowing Candidates exposure to regional BSL variations throughout the course.
the course will focus on receptive and productive skills to enable the candidate to converse in a broad range of complex social situations. Following successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to demonstrate their ability to maintain fluency, coherence and grammatical accuracy whilst using varied and complex vocabulary, including an understanding of regional variations.
Assessments will be based on eight topics and these taught sessions will be led by visiting Deaf professionals with experience in the following fields:
- Medicine
- Education
- Employment and Business
- Finance
- Society
- Politics and Law
- Media
- Science
If the Level 6 Certificate is successfully completed and passed, Candidates will be able to progress onto Interpreter Training.
